Health Lottery Ad Pulled

The United Kingdom is quite tough on advertising standards, so it is important for companies to be completely honest when advertising their wares. It seems that The Health Lottery has failed to meet those standards, as a recent ruling has pulled one of the operator’s ads from the air.

According to the ASA, the Health Lottery’s advertisement was misleading. It seemed to claim that there were multiple winners of its £250 000 jackpot prize, which is not the truth. In fact, the jackpot had only been increased to £250 000 this year, and only a few winners have claimed the prize.

The advertisement proclaimed: “Already 375,000 people have won, with jackpot winners scooping up to a quarter of a million pounds each”.

While it does not sound as though the Lottery is stating that all 375 000 people had won the jackpot, it does claim that more than a handful had won the grand prize. These types of claims can be dangerous, compelling customers to purchase lottery tickets based on false information.

“We considered that the ad misleadingly implied there was a jackpot of £250,000 more regularly than was the case,” the ASA said in a statement. As such, the ad had to be pulled.
