Birmingham Bets on Proposals Wins a Casino Deal
Over the past year much talk has been stirred across the UK about the possibility of new large-scale casinos being established across the country. Many locations have been scouted as possible sites for a new grand feature with communities debating the pros and cons of such an investment. For the citizens of Birmingham depending on personal views of the idea, there is good news or bad news.
Regardless of the perception it has been confirmed that Genting UK has partnered with construction group Galliford Try to build a casino in Birmingham. Genting is prepared to invest £90 million in the development that provided unforeseen setbacks don’t take place, should lead to an opening at the beginning of 2015.
Birmingham’s National Exhibition Center has been chosen as the site for the casino which will also include spacious hotels, spas, conference centers, a movie theatre, and a number of retail stores in an outlet onsite. Galliford CEO Greg Fitzgerald is very excited to have made the deal with Genting hinting the recession has limited the scope of their business for new construction projects, and this is a great boost his company needed.
The casino is expected to house a mixture of slots, table games, and instant play machines in a huge overarching casino floor. Estimates suggest the game room itself will be 50,000 sq feet run by locals as the investment is expected to spur economic growth and many job prospects. Genting has agreed to hire locals to work in the complex so the community gets its fair share of benefits from this deal; forecasts of £25 million for the local economy year over year have been given to stimulate greater interest in the Birmingham area.
