William Hill Rolls Out iOS Darts App for PDC World Darts Championship
As the new backer of the Professional Darts Corporation’s (PDC) World Darts Championship, William Hill (WH) introduced a stimulating and feature-rich darts in-play mobile betting app, exclusively for iPhone and iPad device users. The launch of the darts app coincided with the commencement of the “William Hill World Darts Championship” last December 18, 2014 at the Alexandra Palace in London, to end on January 04, 2015.
The darts app allow WH registered members to access their betting account using their iPhone or iPad device and to participate in the betting action for 26 betting markets for every match, such as “Leg Winner,” “Correct Score,” “Highest Checkout,” “Number of 180s,” “Red/Green,” and “Under/Over.” Non-WH members can download the app in their iOS device, but must first open a betting account at William Hill, by simply tapping on the “Join Us” button and proceeding with the registration process. Aside from the betting markets, darts enthusiasts using the WH app can view major PDC and BDO (British Darts Organisation) events in live game simulations, and the relevant player statistics, as well as the match results.
Actually, the PDC World Darts Championship is the British bookmaker’s second foray into darts competitions after having sponsored the “Grand Slam of Darts” tournament held by the PDC at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall in 2011 up to 2013. In April of this year, the PDC named William Hill as the new naming partner for the World Darts Championship for an initial two-year sponsorship contract, replacing the UK bookmaker’s closest rival Ladbrokes.
William Hill’s Director of Innovation and Customer Experience Jamie Hart voiced his excitement with the launch of the new darts app and with the kickoff of the “William Hill World Darts Championship.” He remarked that they have smacked the bulls-eye with the introduction of the mobile app, as he is confident that it will prove to be a massive hit among darts aficionados.
For this year’s World Darts Championship, WH has established 16-time World Champion Phil Taylor at 2/1, as the number one player to likely triumph in the ongoing tournament. Current World Champion Michael van Gerwen, who is out to defend his title is the second favourite at 11/4.
The Head of Sponsorship at William Hill Tony Kenny commented that they are expecting their turnover to hit £10 million for the first time in this year’s “William Hill World Darts Championship,” as they foresee big money coming in for Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen.
About the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC)
The PDC is the darts organisation formed in 1992, initially as the World Darts Council (WDC), by a group of 16 leading professional UK darts players who broke off with the British Darts Organisation (BDO). The breakaway group was not satisfied with the BDO governance as the professional darts association had lost most of its sponsorships and TV coverage. Much controversy had ensued thereafter, to which matters led to a court dispute that was resolved by way of an out-of-court- settlement that set forth conditions, which both parties agreed to comply with as compromise. Such conditions included the change of the World Darts Council name to Professional Darts Corporation.
