DraftDay Gaming Looks To Enact Self-Regulation
DraftDay Gaming Group has chosen to take steps to help consumers in the gaming world out. The entity has decided to launch a “consumer protection initiative”. The initiative is not going to focus solely on the holdings and dealings associated with DraftDay. Rather, the intention here is to launch an industry-wide initiative that will have ramifications across the entire board. Whether or not this the endeavor turns out to be successful is going to be based on a host of factors. DraftDay Gaming Group does deserve credit for trying regardless of how things ultimately turn out.
What is at the core of this initiative? Basically, the entity wishes to devise “regulatory safeguards” that are similar to ones that have been instituted in the United States.
At the core of this initiative is the world of fantasy sports. Fantasy sports play is the rage all over the world and many people are joining up with fantasy gaming services. Since money and wagering are part of fantasy play, concerns have arisen about the potential for problem gambling-like behavior among fantasy enthusiasts. Rather than see controversial events occur and then experience excessive government regulatory action, the DraftDay Gaming Group is looking to be proactive. The new initiative hopes to set the stage for reducing problems with those who are very enthusiastic about their fantasy league play.
The goals of the initiative cover multiple areas of concern. Increased transparency is one and so is looking closely at ways to enhance accountability.
Coming up with plans for regulatory rules is not a bad idea, but there could be some logistical issues to contend with. Trying to institute effective rules and policies is extremely wise as a preventive measure. Fantasy sports leagues do not want to face problems with their customers. The industry does not want to experience any controversies. Most assuredly, industry insiders wish to avoid any legal entanglements, civil or otherwise. So, putting together a plan for the fantasy sports industry to regulate and police itself makes sense. Whether or not carrying out the plans proves feasible is another matter.
In the United States, the NCPG provides a solution to concerns over problem gambling in the industry. No, the NCPG cannot eradicate all instances of problem gambling. Doing so would be outright impossible. However, any and all help delivered by the NCPG likely contributes to a reduction of problem gambling.
The absence of any entity seeking to help curtail problem gambling clearly would allow for more people to get caught up in the net of compulsive gambling. With this in mind, it is safe to say the presence of self-regulatory entities is going to prove helpful.
