What Happened to the Large Casino Venues Supposed to Come to the UK?

UK casinoAs of late last year the Blair Government was going to build a massive expansion in the casino industry. They were all set to bring the dream to the UK. All of the sudden though, the dream stopped. Well it didn’t exactly stop, it just got stymied a little.

What Happened?

It all started back in 2007. Back in 2007, Manchester was about to drop a big super casino the area. Now a few years later, the dream was about to be reborn once more. Plans for 16 UK casinos were set in motion. There was a total of 8 large and 8 small casinos. Licenses had been drawn up. Everything was ready to go. Excitement was in the air. Then, some of the plans were set back even more.

Setbacks

Out of the 8 large UK casinos, only 3 have surfaced. These three have netted several million pounds over the last few years. Which is very good. However, according to some, it’s not good enough.

One opened in 2011. The last two opened in the fall of 2013 and the fall of 2015. When it comes to plans for the other 13, plans are still not quite there yet. At least one or two are still under construction. At least one plan has been abandoned for right now. Another casino has not yet approved an operator for the official site.

What Does The Public Say About It?

Actually, lots of residents are quite happy with the overall idea behind expanding the gaming industry. The major reason behind this is due to job creation. The residents have been assured there will be more jobs. There is also the idea of regeneration and community benefits.

These solutions ended up being the primary reason behind Asper’s Casino being created in 2011. The gaming industry was behind this expansion due to the idea of “taking responsibility.” If the casino took more accountability for what happened between them and their customers, than the gaming industry was more than happy to give it their endorsement.

Future Developments

This is a question that has been up for debate for some time. Many are wondering if some of the other casinos are ever going to be built and organized. While others are saying that it’s soon to tell what will happen.

“Just because a license has been obtained, doesn’t mean something is going to happen. It’s up to the casino and counsel if they want to still go ahead with the project.”

This is an okay attitude for some to take; however, after talking with others in the UK, some are wondering what this is going to cost them. Right now many questions are being asked, and not many answers are coming back with a great deal of satisfaction.

Only time will tell what will come of the other UK casinos that have yet to be built. Was the money that was already put out for the licenses foolishly spent? Will something come of the dream?
