Play’n Go Just Launched Sails of Gold Slot Machine
Usually when some software provider announces a new game to be launched on the market, promoting a big payout potential, we expect to see something new and interesting.
Even newer versions of existing slot games can look very good with altered pay table and a different bonus round. But announcing a new game and then launching a complete clone from another software provider is really nothing to brag about.
Play ‘N Go did this with their new title Sails of Gold which is almost an exact clone of Columbus Deluxe by Novamatic. Except for the altered symbols everything else is exactly the same, so we don’t believe it will be a success among the gambling community.
What We love
The game does have some features that make it worth playing. The pay table is pretty decent and with some luck you can have some medium wins to keep you spinning for a while.
The bonus round looks interesting with 10 free spins awarded if the scatter symbol lands on reels 1, 3 and 5 at the same time. You can also re-trigger the free spins by landing extra 3 scatters during the bonus round.

The most interesting part about this symbol is that it has an added function of an extra wild during the free spins. This way you get more chances to win, simply because the number of wild symbols is bigger.
Also the number of extra free spins is added to the total accumulated number, instead of being reset like in their other similar release, Golden Caravan.
What we Do not Like
We don’t like that this is clone game simply because we were hoping for more creativity by the Play ‘N Go designer team. The pay table and bonus round seem decent, but there is no multiplier added to the free spins winnings.
This is a major setback in the game and since they decided to make a clone game, they could have at least added this feature to make it more attractive to play.
Worth Playing?
Well in our humble expert opinion, not really. There is some winning potential thanks to the scatter symbols double function in the bonus round, but getting the maximum payout of 5 wilds on a pay line seems way to risky to chase.
You can end up investing a big amount of money trying to win big and get nothing in return. There is one crucial difference between the two same clone games. If you play Columbus Deluxe from Novamatic you will see that the free spins re-trigger there happens often and you can end up with wins of over 200 x bet a number of times.
Here in Sails of Gold the free spins are re-triggered very rarely and the most we got was only one re-trigger. The base play payouts are small and rare, acting like this is some ultra high variance slot game.
Overall this game is simply not worth investing money in, trying to win big and we are sure that the end result will be one fat 0 on your balance.
