Former Online Gaming Specialists Launch Locus Gaming
Online gambling has become one of the UK’s biggest businesses, but the recent explosive popularity of mobile gambling has opened new doors for gaming industry experts. The UK mobile gaming market is experiencing rapid growth, coinciding with the mass import of smartphones and now recent interest in tablets – both of which are circumventing traditional web browsing and online gambling. As a result, two gaming industry titans are joining together for a new project called Locus Gaming – gaming for the next generation.
According to statistics from H2 Gambling Capital (H2), the gambling industry’s leading consulting, marketing intelligence, and data team, the UK mobile gaming market reached £202 million in 2010. H2 is projecting that growth to reach £488 million in 2015 as more UK punters adapt to smartphone and tablet technology. H2 also described global mobile gaming winnings as being worth £2.29 billion in 2011, which are expected to surpass £3.9 billion in 2015.
The rapid growth of the mobile gaming market has served as the core reason for Locus Gaming. Launched by Ed Andrewes, formerly of UK online gaming company Ladbrokes, and Mick d’Ancona, former Technical Director of GCD Solutions, Locus Gaming will provide gamers with a platform for mobile gaming technology. Details are being kept under wraps but Andrewes says the growing mobile gaming market is where Locus Gaming will focus its services.
Smartphones are very rarely used for phone calls anymore according to d’Ancona, who also says listening to music, watching movies, and placing bets on games have become common practice using mobile networks.
“Sitting on a train or in the back of a taxi is boring and we feel strongly that those with disposable income will enjoy our product for a bit of buzz whether on their way to dinner of an evening or just sitting in front of the TV.”
Locus Gaming has received a gaming license from the Isle of Man Gaming Commission, and is expected to launch into the market sometime in January.
