Gaming Regulator Prompts Game Show Changes

Simon Cowell’s new game show Red Or Black will be undergoing some major changes before returning to television this year. In addition to pre-taping shows before they air, television executives have also decided to get rid of the show’s roulette wheel, which seems to glamourize gambling.

The decision to pre-tape shows before airing them is a result of having several questionable contests on the show last year. The first big winning was a convicted felon and two other individuals with criminal records were allowed to take part, as well. With pre-taping, the show’s executives can ensure that adequate screening can be performed on each contestant – to avoid any future scandals.

The removal of the roulette wheel is the result of the UK Gambling Commission’s complaints. The regulator believed that including the roulette wheel gave viewers an unrealistic view of gambling, glamourizing the activity. As such, the commission requested that the show remove the wheel but retain the original format of the game; Red or Black’s executive’s complied.
