Growth of Mobile Gaming Expected to Rise
Online gambling has become one of the most popular ways to place a bet over the last few years. The days where punters are required to physically go to a bookmaker or a casino are done. Online gambling has provided a far more convenient way for gamers to play their favourite games, and convenience continues to be a huge selling point for gaming operators. In fact, gaming is becoming even easier for loyal punters with the advancements made in mobile gaming.
A recent market report from the UK Office of Communications indicated that mobile gambling comprised 0.6 percent of the global gambling market in 2010, but that is expected to rise to at least 3 percent in 2013. The report also suggests mobile sportsbetting is by far, the most popular form of mobile gaming. Sportsbetting on a smartphone accounted for 76 percent of all mobile gaming wagers.
The report also studied the number of smartphones in the UK market to demonstrate the market potential for mobile gaming. In 2011, 27 percent of UK residents owned a smartphone, which has now surpassed 40 percent. Expectations are that by the beginning of 2014, at least 50 percent of all UK citizens will own a smartphone, and estimations project that number could reach 70 percent. Statistics from the US and the EU reflect similar smartphone patterns, with ownership at 45 percent and 44 percent respectively in those two markets.
As of now, mobile gaming is still finding its ground but clearly there is room for impressive growth in the market.
