Jilted Online Poker Players Can File Civil Forfeiture Claim
…The only downside is, today is the deadline.
Online poker players that were affected by the Black Friday indictments have until the end of the business day on the East Coast to file a civil forfeiture claim with the U.S District Court at the Southern District of New York. Third-party civil forfeiture claims must be made within 60 days of a government’s first notice to seek forfeiture. The first notice was done on May 16th, a month after Black Friday.
Full Tilt Poker, Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet still owe players funds. Filing the civil forfeiture claim would be a way for jilted online poker players to collect on funds owed by online poker sites. Full Tilt Poker alone owes a staggering $150 million to U.S. online poker players.
April 15th is when this all started. The Southern District of New York issued indictments against online poker sites, its owners, and its employees. Proceeds that were illegal in bank accounts were seized by the Federal Government, and since then, some players have been paid back, and Full Tilt Poker stopped its services.
Sites such as Full Tilt Poker have been unable to refund U.S players because under U.S. Law, money owed by defendants to people may make a claim to get paid out from the seized funds.
