Netherlands to Change Gambling Laws
Netherlands was one of the few European countries to still have a ban on online gambling. It was previously believed that the country’s government would never lift the ban, but now that the Netherland has a new government in power, the option of legalized online gambling seems more plausible.
The Netherlands has a new right-winged government which believes that online gambling could present a valuable source of tax revenue to the country. Over 500 000 people in The Netherlands currently play at offshore online gambling websites and the new government believes that the country should obtain a portion of that revenue.
A source recently made a list of the advantages and disadvantages of legalizing online gambling in the country. Although the details of the pros and cons have not been released, industry insiders believe that the good must have outweighed the bad – as the government is now currently considering the idea of legalizing online gambling in the country.
In many countries, land-based casinos are against the idea of online gambling, as they are worried that they will lose business – but this is not the case in The Netherlands. Instead, land-based casinos support the idea, stating that the legalization of online gambling would improve the reputation of the industry at large.
