888 is slowly gaining steam as one of the UK’s most popular online betting brands. Over the course of the past year, the site has seen a great deal of growth and a boost in profits – mostly thanks to its online poker offering.

In previous years, 888 Poker saw disappointing results; however, the operator managed to turn things around in 2011. In an impressive turn of events, 888 saw a 72% jump in profits, earning $41.3 million over the course of the year.

Expansion into European online gambling markets has been the driving force behind 888’s growth. Recently, the company obtained a license allowing it to enter Spain’s online poker market. Over the course of the past few months, 888 has worked hard to obtain a large portion of the market share. Now, the company operates over 25% of the online poker activity in Spain.

Across Europe, 888’s poker division has grown steadily since 2010. Two years ago, the company saw a 90% boost in online poker activity and things have continued to improve. Over the course of the past year, online poker activity continued to grow by 62%.
