William Hill Not Pleased With Point-of-Consumption Tax

The UK’s point-of-consumption tax is not very popular among most online gambling operators. While it puts UK-based companies on a level playing field with those located offshore, companies like William Hill and Ladbrokes are unimpressed with the potential gambling tax change. William Hill is so incensed that the company has gotten its lawyers involved and is threatening to take legal action.

William Hill is just one of several former UK-based operators that have decided to make the move offshore to avoid the UK’s steep gambling taxes. To make up for lost gambling tax revenue, the UK has decided to implement a point-of-consumption tax that would require operators from across the UK to pay gambling taxes.

The lawyers hired by William Hill believe that the point-of-consumption tax violate European Union free trade regulations. As such, they want to see the country scrap its legislation. The company would much prefer to see the UK Gambling Commission reduce gambling taxes in the country in order to prompt the return of offshore gambling operators. This is a solution that would satisfy everyone, but the government does not seem very keen on the idea.
