Worlds First Online Gambling Company Celebrates 25th Year
Intertops.com, a Microgaming affiliate, has kicked off its yearlong celebration for its 25th anniversary in the sports betting business. Established in London in 1993, Intertops.com is also celebrating the 10thanniversary of its online casino.
Intertops.com made history in 1996 when they accepted the first online sports bet and followed up that feat in 2001 by accepting the first mobile bet.
Founder Detlef Train was originally persuaded by his fellow peers against taking his business into the online world.
“Everyone told me to leave it well alone,” he recalls. “They said it would only ruin the reputation of my business. But my view on life is that one shouldn’t just accept things as they are, but start questioning and looking at things from different angles. I just ignored those who asked why anyone would ever want to place a bet on the Net. And with 30 million Internet users worldwide in the mid 90s I saw more huge potential for remote betting shops.”
Along the way, Intertops.com has launched its own poker room in 2003 and in 2006 launched its mobile casino which, in partner with Microgaming, includes online casino games adapted for cell phones and powered by Spin3.
