Attack on Retro comes from Triple Edge Studios and Microgaming, a partnership which has resulted in quite a few games lately, including African Quest and Playboy Gold Jackpots.

Microgaming has been launching a lot of games from smaller studios lately, with which they’ve partnered, and some of these are going to be missing the mark unfortunately. There are some good games as well though, and I’d consider this slot to be one of them.

How To Play the Attack on Retro slot game

Wagers are going to be accessible to pretty much everyone that is used to playing slots. The minimum bet is at only $0.10, so $0.01 is going to each line. If you can afford to spend more, the slot allows you to spend up to $20 each round, or $2 per line.

Special Features

Hyperspins are present as an option, and their proper use will give the game’s RTP a boost. They allow the player to re-spin reels where they want different symbols, in exchange for an extra cost, which varies depending on the potential outcome.

The game has a couple of different wilds, which are using the images of the main characters and also appearing in sizes ranging from 1 to 3 symbols high. Jesse and Billy are the ones shown on these wilds, which are either regular sized or stacked.

Both wild symbols can be used to help form combinations, so the usual role of the substitute is present in them. They are also used in the formation of combinations of their own. Get five matching wilds to get paid 100x the stake, or mix the two types in a combo, and get paid up to 50x the stake.

A feature which includes robots landing on the reels will randomly trigger. Lasers will shoot at those robots, transforming them into extra wilds. A maximum of 15 wilds can appear during paid spins, or up to 3 for a re-spin, and up to 9 for the free games (only on the middle reels).

To reach the free spins stage, you need the three triggering scatters at the same time, on the middle three columns. The payout potential is high, which is great since we’re talking about a slot from Microgaming’s collection. With its 5,000x the stake top payout, and the High volatility it mentions, the game is not standard fare for this developer. RTP is lower than their average though, at just 95.58% (going up to 96.08% if you’re using the Hyperspins option).

Summary

Attack on Retro is a fun enough game, it can deliver a couple of good features and bigger payouts than I expect Microgaming to offer, and so it will be a good option if you want a higher volatility slot from them.
