Autumn Queen Slot Review
Autumn Queen should be one of the most original and entertaining video slots released in a long time. Well, it certainly is one of those.
The notion that there is a Queen of Autumn out there, and that this red-haired beauty controls the fall of the leaves is incredibly original. For a slot that could be ranked so high for originality, it can be ranked completely the opposite for gameplay and excitement.
Autumn Queen is nothing short of dull, mediocre, and rather poor when most of its features are rated and reviewed. How could Novomatic have messed up a slot so badly, given its potential? Find out in our Autumn Queen slot review.
Developers
Novomatic isn’t exactly known for developing an endless line of big winners. Some of their slots have gone on to be standout titles, and to capture the imagination of the online gaming community. And then there are times when Novomatic produces a real stinker. Unfortunately, Autumn Queen is the latter.
This is a slot which has a decent set of paylines, but the features, the method of triggering those features and the graphics really let it down.
If Novomatic had merely implemented some of their more popular features and options into this slot, then alongside its original theme it really would have been a force to be reckoned with.
Basic Information
How to play
Let’s talk about Autumn Queen’s wagering menu first. It is bad. The reels themselves are inside a peach and pink backdrop which doesn’t much for the game thematically. Worst still, the menu bar doesn’t appear to be thematic in any way, shape or form.
It reveals a sense of laziness on the part of Novomatic when it comes to the design of this slot.
That same wagering menu won’t allow you to alter your bets, and the betting systems feature a fiddly coin system, so you don’t really know how much you are wagering in all. We can tell you – between $0.40 and $60 per spin on this 5-reel, 40-line slot.
Features
Wild symbols: Special features are not exactly plentiful in this slot. First up are wild symbols. They can appear as the Autumn Queen logo, and yes, they can substitute for all other symbols in the game, barring scatters. They aren’t that frequently occurring, though. So, whilst wilds are useful and rather useless at the same time.
Scatter icons: Scatter symbols appear as crystal balls. Why? Your guess is as good as ours. Scattered crystal ball symbols can trigger a free spins bonus round, but there is some bad news.
You are going to need to locate 5 on any active line to trigger that feature. No, we’re not joking. You do need 5 scatter symbols on the reels to trigger the bonus. That is simply poor form from Novomatic.
Free spins bonus: Even if by some miracle, you managed to trigger the free spins bonus, you’re set for a rather disappointing ride. Players will start the bonus with a total of 5 free spins.
For every scatter symbol that you land on the reels whilst the bonus is in session, you will pocket another 5 free spins. It sounds nice, but again, scatters (like wilds) do little to boost your wins.
Piles of leaves can appear on the reels of this bonus, and they can hide stacked symbols behind them, but these too do little to bolster your wins when playing the Autumn Queen slot.
Maximum pay-outs
Autumn Queen comes with a non-progressive jackpot. You shouldn’t be too surprised by that since most Novomatic slots follow suit in that department.
The top prize is worth around 500 coins, and to win that prize, you will need to land 5 of the Autumn Queen symbols on the reels – the actual Autumn Queen, not the slot’s logo.
Summary
Autumn Queen is fiddly, it is expensive, and it doesn’t take Novomatic’s slots in any new direction. The features are drab at best, and the method of triggering them can leave you feeling nothing short of robbed.
For a slot, which was released so late in the year (it is nearly winter), and is devoid of grace or excitement, one cannot help but think that Autumn Queen is really going to struggle to attract players.
Some players may like what the slot has to offer (we certainly liked its theme), but we think most players are going to feel short-changed with this release, so we’d advise against giving it a look.
