Beat the Beast: Quetzalcoatl’s Trial Slot Machine – Free Play & Review

Beat the Beast is one of Thunderkick’s more popular series, and in previous releases we’ve fought against  Cerberus, Sphinx and Kraken, while in this fourth installment we’re going to South American to fight the serpent god Quetzalcoatl.

For its symbols, this game includes the Royals initially, from 10 to Ace and placed on green stone tablets. Next, you’re looking at statues, crowns, an axe and a cup, while the snake god is the one paying the jackpot. Of course, feature symbols are also included, such as the W logo for the wild, or the Quetzalcoatl logo as the scatter.

Thunderkick is not one of the big developers, but they are one of the better ones around. With a good collection of slot machines, which includes plenty of fun titles, they’ve done great so far, and they keep working on new games at their own pace. The entire Beat the Beast series is worth checking out, along with many of their other slots.

How To Play It

The bets which will be selected here, are going to have a range of $0.10 to $100. The game appears to be using 10 coins, when covering the 9 lines available.

5×3 reels is a big enough game area, but here there are only 9 active lines present. Both regular and stacked symbols are used. Wins will form when 3+ positions on the same line are occupied by matching symbols, starting from the leftmost position.

Special Features

The one major feature symbol that you’re going to find in the base game, is the emblem/logo of Quetzalcoatl, used both as a wild and scatter. It will help out and get you more wins when landing where it’s needed, if it can act as a substitute there.

At the same time, you need 3 or more in view, to get rewards as high as 200x the stake, and to also trigger the free spins. In this mode, you’re going to try and level up, in order to reach the more profitable side of the feature.

A new wild symbol is added as well, a W logo colored in green. As you get these wilds, you also collect them. You need 5 collected, in order to get to the next level and win 2 extra spins as well. When this happens, the game takes the least valuable symbol in view, and gives it an upgrade to a mid value icon. Get to the 5^th level, and at that point all symbols of medium value will be turned into high paying icons. If another set of 3+ scatters lands, the slot adds an extra 10 free spins to the total.

Maximum Payouts

The list of features is not that long, and the slot’s lines are few, and yet we find that Quetzalcoatl’s Trial is capable of great things. A top jackpot of up to 5,555x the stake is on the table, the kind of payout which will justify the High volatility that we’ve seen advertised in its case.

Naturally, we get an above average RTP as well, 96.16% being the percentage of all bets which is expected to get back in the player’s pockets.

Summary

Beat the Beast: Quetzalcoatl’s Trial is a worthy new release for the series, simple enough to play and with a relatively short list of features, but quite powerful if you get lucky with it. As usual, casual players might want to stay away from this one, it’s a bit on the risky side.
