Forbidden Throne Online Slot Machine – Free Play & Review
Forbidden Throne is what happens when Microgaming attempts to merge Game of Thrones with Lord of the Rings. Both are epic franchises, and Forbidden Throne has elements of them both. Given that Microgaming developed a rather decent Game of Thrones slot, we had lofty expectations for this game.
Those expectations faded as we started spinning its reels, though. The story in the slot tells the tales of Wulthor, the Elven Lord of Fire, and Sorconass, the Queen of Ice. Yes, Fire and Ice, another Game of Throne reference for those who already caught the reference to that successful series in the title of this slot.
Developer
Microgaming is no stranger to epic slots. Their Immortal Romance, Avalon and Thunderstruck II slots are still hugely popular games today, many years after their initial release.
With Forbidden Throne, they have tried to merge various epic fantasy franchises into one, and it doesn’t really come off. Microgaming have also shied away from their 243 ways to win structure with this slot, and gone for something seemingly simpler at first, but something that ultimately mildly challenging.
Basic Information
How to play
All 40 paylines in this 5-reel slot are fixed into place, and players have no hope of changing them. A new, stylish and minimalistic wagering menu bar is present in this game, instead of the stereotypical one we’re used to from Microgaming. It doesn’t allow you to do much, but that’s okay.
Forbidden Throne can see you choose coin denominations which stem from 1p up to £2, and you can bet up to 10 coins per line. Expect to be wagering anything from 40p a go on this slot, up to £800 a spin at most.
Features
Wild symbols: There are two types of wilds in this slot – wild reels and wild symbols. We’ll talk about the wild reels in a moment. As for wild symbols, they appear as the Forbidden Throne symbol, and they can replace all symbols barring scatters. They are also the best-paying symbols in the slot.
Wild reels: It is possible to land entirely wild reels in this slot machine game. On every spin in the base game (or the free games feature) a reel will turn wild. Wild symbols can include horses, Wulthor, Sorconass, eagles, or a fortress. They can substitute for all symbols, save for scatters.
Scatter symbols: Scatters can shine through the wild reels, meaning that wilds can cover the symbols, but scatters still count even when covered by wilds. These scatter icons appear as pearly objects and can trigger a free games feature, when 3, 4 or 5 appear anywhere on the reels.
Free spin bonus: Players will either begin the bonus round with 10, 20 or 30 free spins, depending on whether they landed 3, 4 or 5 scatters in the base game. The feature can be triggered, but no multipliers are added to winnings in this feature.
Maximum pay-outs
To pocket a non-progressive prize, players are going to need individual wild symbols and plenty of them. Landing 5 on any active payline can see players able to pocket winnings worth up to £10,000. Failing that, the fire and ice symbols can dish out prizes worth £4,000, and £2,000 when 5 appear on a payline, respectively.
Summary
Microgaming have already developed a Game of Thrones slot machine game, so you must ask yourself, why develop this one? The slot is very similar, equally as fantastical and it is unlikely that it will draw in too big of a crowd.
Forbidden Throne is nifty if you like fantasy and epic themed slots, but to be perfectly honest, we’ve seen the theme before in Game of Thrones and other Lord of the Rings style slots, and we’re not that eager to see it again in Forbidden Throne.
