The Mask was one of the more popular comedies of the 90s, and a lot of the players got an introduction to Jim Carrey’s style of comedy with that one, as well as to a young new actress going by the name of Cameron Diaz. Both return here, in The Mask, the most recent slot machine to come from NextGen Gaming.

It is a branded game, meaning that the developer paid for the right to use the images from the movie and the name. Sometimes this doesn’t include the right to use images of the actors themselves, but I’m happy to report that in The Mask we got both Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz among the major symbols.

Besides the two actors, other images selected for the symbols give us the Green Mask, the Night Club Bonus, Milo, a Yellow Hat, a Money Bag and five Royals, which are colorful and fun to look at.

Developer 

One of the earlier developers that are still around today, and which got its start in 1999, NextGen Gaming is no longer an independent company today, yet it still manages to offer great content to its players. One of the NYX Gaming companies, it launches new slot machines on a monthly basis, so they have quite a few titles for you to check out each year.

How To Play It

You will not have a lot of active lines to play on, but the 10 you do have at your disposal will require a wager that will cover them all. It’s the reason why bets start from a $0.10 minimum, since each one would get $0.01 that way. At the other end of the betting range, you have a maximum of $50, which will distribute a $5 bet to each of those same 10 lines.

You have a mobile friendly design, which places all your options around a Spin button, on the right side. Another way to get those options is by clicking the Menu button, and then you will see all the bet values on one screen, along with other settings and the paytable.

Special Features 

In a game about Loki’s mask, what better main character and wild symbol, than the actor wearing the said mask, being turned into that evil character as a result. As a wild symbol, you’re going to be able to use it to complete various winning combinations, but to manage that you need matching symbols as well. If you get only wilds on a line, in two or more positions which start from the left, you get their own rewards triggered.

A Night Club’s entrance, a place where one of the movie’s more memorable scenes took place, is what you see in the other feature symbol, the scatter. Have these symbols appear several times to get their rewards (up to 500x and free spins).

If the free spins trigger, you receive 10 to 25 rounds and the wins that come thanks to wilds will have multipliers, ranging from 2x to 5x.

Besides these regular features, the game has four wild bonuses that will activate at random, and in which the Mask will get involved. In each case, you have very good chances to get a win.

Maximum Payouts 

With five scatters in view, there will be rewards of up to 500x awarded, so up to $2,500 could be won. I found the RTP to be on the low side, since it’s been announced at just 95.508%.

Summary 

Anyone that loved The Mask will appreciate the slot machine that comes from NextGen Gaming as well. A bit late perhaps, with over two decades since the film came out, but better late than never.
