Microgaming is not always a developer that I’d associate with big jackpots, unless we count their progressive jackpots here, but in The Vault we find both excellent rewards and a high RTP, to go with its high volatility. You can count on this developer offering solid games on average though, even if they often seem to cater more to casual players.

How To Play It

In a game which allows you to spend $0.01 to $1 for each active line, you’re always using 20 lines, and as such your bets go from $0.20 to $20.

The Vault features 5×3 reels with 20 active lines, which is about as common of a mix of features as you can get. The features are good, but not unique, and you shouldn’t have any problems figuring out how they work. It’s just a mix of wilds, scatters and free spins with multipliers.

Special Features

Among the special features that The Vault introduces, a regular wild is not surprising to find. In this case, the wild symbol can both be used to form combinations of up to five on their own, or they can be part of other wins as substitutes. Either way, it’s a solid feature, incredibly common and yet quite profitable to have around.

Scatters are in place as well, and they can be used to trigger the free spins. 5 of these symbols will get you 10 free games, for which you are using a 3x multiplier to start with, and with the possibility to increase it by 1x for each multiplier symbol that shows up. The 3^rd reel now gets expanding wilds, so the potential for this mode is even higher than the multiplier would suggest.

If only two or more of the required scatter symbols appear, then you get a Respin bonus. The scatters get locked, and respins follow, trying to get you closer to the five scatters required to trigger the free spins. It’s a second chance, for you to get the slot’s main feature, and it’s good to have around, even though it doesn’t pay anything directly.

Maximum Payouts

For a game with High volatility, which The Vault is, a jackpot of 5,000x looks like a satisfying potential reward. There are games that do even better, while others do worse, so I’m not complaining. RTP being at 96%, we find another thing to be content with, as players tend to get a fair amount back from it, at least on average.

Summary

The Vault is not the type of game that I would get excited about. It’s using the same features that we’ve seen in a lot of games from the past, so that part will not make it stand out. However, if you want a game with high volatility and big rewards from Microgaming’s collection, it’s going to be one of the better options that you can go after.
