With the second game of the series, Valley of the Gods 2, Yggdrasil kept the Ancient Egypt theme, obviously, but they changed the layout, giving it a boost and modifying some other things as well. The design is unusual, thanks to the varying number of symbols on the reels, but the quality is high and the effect is a good one overall.

As the game’s symbols, you will discover Royals initially, which is hardly a surprise anymore, but then they move on to much better looking icons, with images of Bastet, Sobek, Horus and Anubis, four of the well known Egyptian deities.

How To Play It

Though the number of potential combinations can sometimes vary, you always use wagers within the given range, from $0.25 to $125.

In exchange, the slot offers you 240 ways to win on its 6 reels initially (with 1-2-3-4-5-2 symbols on the columns), but with a chance to get up to 20,160 ways to win down the road. Combinations can form when matching symbols land on adjacent reels, left to right.

Special Features

When you’re forming your winning combinations, via the ways to win that I’ve mentioned, you will find that the game looks at the number of symbols involved in those wins, and then removes a corresponding number of blocker positions. This expands the game area, adding more ways to win, and granting you one respin. Winning respins continue to unlock new positions and they keep the round going.

If you manage to get the full game area unlocked, then an additional life is given, and the gameplay changes somewhat. The extra life comes in handy if you go through a respin that doesn’t bring you a new win, since it gives you a second chance to continue the round.

Through all those ways to win that you can unlock (up to 20,160), along with increasing multipliers and wild reels, the game adds everything up and eventually it gives you a decent chance at a big prize, provided that your luck holds up.

A top jackpot of 5,481x the stake is nothing to sneeze at, though we’re used to seeing much bigger figures these days.

I’m satisfied with the target, considering that volatility is medium-high and the RTP is at 96.30%.

Summary

Valley of the Gods 2 appears to have what it takes to get the player’s attention, its unusual setup alone will take care of that, when you combine it with its respins. Still, I’m a fan of slot machines which have more features, and here it’s mostly about respins. It can be difficult getting to the more interesting modifiers.
